Tom Yum

A Thai coconut lemongrass soup with mushrooms, tofu, tomatoes, shallots, rice, and a hint of red curry

Short history: Tom Yum is a hot and sour soup that originates from Thailand! There is relatively little known about the origins of this dish – it has become so popular in Thai households and families that this year, Thailand is seeking to have Tom Yum soup included in Unesco’s intangible cultural heritage list of 2020. Says Susan Waggoner after she searched for a history of Tom Yum and came up pretty much empty handed, “in my experience, this is almost always the mark of a very ancient dish, one that preceded written recipes and has become such a part of the culture it does not need further explanation.” Whatever the origins of this delicious dish, you will receive great health benefits from eating it! Antioxidants, vitamins B, C, & K, potassium, folate, iron, manganese, and magnesium are all present in this dish.

Reheating Instructions: Simmer in a pot for 2 to 3 minutes.
