So, let’s jump into this. What exactly does plant-based really mean?

It’s funny, I get this question, and people get confused a lot by it, but really it just means everything we’re eating is made from plants. That’s it. As a chef it’s forced me to be creative and, in a way, it leveled up my food.

So, at The Vegan Taste, you make it easy for people to incorporate plenty of veggies and healthy ingredients into their diet, right?

I mean we do that, obviously, we’re plant-based and we’re vegetable-focused, but we do it in a way that I think people really enjoy. We’ll make enchiladas but we’ll fill them with sweet potatoes and black beans and roasted kale and sheared shallots and stuff like that. So, we give people foods that they’re familiar with but in a way that is healthy and in a way that’s really good and that they’re not expecting.

So how exactly does this service work?

It’s pretty easy, so it’s a fixed menu, so what we’re doing is we’re giving you one replacement meal every day of the entire week. You go to the website, you order one of our meal packages, and then our team of drivers goes out every Monday and they deliver these meals that are ready to eat to our clients. It’s not a meal kit, these are something you just heat and eat. We get them to our clients, they reheat them throughout the week, they get healthy, tasty meals, and it’s that simple. And we try to be as zero waste as possible, so we switch out coolers and ice packs every week with our clients.

Well, we have to see what you’re making, so can you show us some examples of the meals?

Okay, I’ll show you, so actually what we do here is, you know, we do a nice plated up version of the meal, so this is our Cubano that we served this week, and these are our Chimichurri Chickenless Tacos, one of my favorites this week. And then we figure out how we’re going to put it in one of our delivery containers and still make it look really nice. So, you can see it’s really colorful. It’s almost plated like we would do at my restaurant. We just give those to people, we give them beautiful food, we give them tasty food, we make it really easy for them.

Those are looking tasty! So overall why do people choose The Vegan Taste, and do they even have to be vegan to enjoy the meals?

Not at all. In fact, we survey our customers pretty frequently – I’ve been doing this 15 years, and what blows me away still is most of our clients aren’t even vegetarian, let alone vegan. They’re actually just people looking for a healthy option. They want to eat, you know, one meal a day throughout the week, or sometimes two, that’s healthy and sustainable for them. We have people that come to us because their doctor prescribed our service to them, and we have foodies that come to us because they just want really great food from us, and we don’t have to compromise on either, which I think is a great part of it.
