French Toast

French toast with bac’n maple syrup, sweet ricotta, and fresh berry compote alongside a scramble.
Short History: French toast comes from as early as the 5th century AD! The Romans called it Pan Dulcis – they would soak bread in a milk and egg mixture, and fry in oil or butter. There are many names that are given to this dish; German toast, eggy bread, Poor Knights of Windsor, Spanish toast, nun’s toast, and pain perdu are a few examples! Some more fun facts include that in Scotland, it is usually served with a sausage in between two slices of French Toast. Sometimes French Toast is eaten with ketchup in Great British! French toast in general is usually high in protein, selenium, and riboflavin, and this rendition from The Vegan Taste will also give you vitamin A, C, and E, folic acid, and more!
